We had a 70+ year old female came to us to get a pair of spectacles in 2012. Vision in her left eye was quite poor (6/45) . Slit lamp funduscopic examination showed that she could have macular hole. We referred her to an eye specialist for further evaluation.
She came back yesterday after having surgery recently in her left eye, where she got her cataract removed and also surgery for the macular hole ( or hole near the macular). We took a picture and this is how it looks.
As we did not have a fundus camera then, we could not show you how it looked like before she had surgery. Her central vision is still quite poor after her surgery. So now she relies mostly on her right eye and her peripheral vision in her left eye. We explained and also showed her what is causing the poor vision in her left eye.
With the Zeiss Visucam 500 fundus camera, we can now document and monitor her left eye (and also her right) and and see if there are any changes on her next visit.
